From the desk of the President

I am honoured to be named president of the Film & Television Producers Guild of India and I look forward to leading the Guild as the businesses of our member companies evolve. I am committed to building on the excellent work put in by my predecessors in all the endeavours of this prestigious body.

The Indian entertainment industry has the potential to grow explosively in the future and this can only translate into a reality if the various stake holders, including content creators/providers, distributors, exhibitors and technology providers, investors and the various government bodies, work together with a shared vision to address the issues and constraints faced by the industry.

With the rising spends by a growing Indian middle class, newer avenues supported by technological innovations, increased global interest in Indian markets and content, regulatory initiatives and with the average Indian getting younger, the Indian entertainment industry is all set to emerge as a large Market globally . It is in the backdrop of this new found realism within the industry that I envisage the growing role of the Guild. The Guild will have to essay its contribution as a guiding force of the industry by spearheading the movement to reinvent itself in the changing times.

Another critical aspect where the Guild should attempt to be a catalyst/driver is the cumbersome task of unifying the industry on meeting the constant challenges faced by the industry It is my pleasure to share with you that the Guild has already undertaken its forays in this endeavor by taking up the responsibility of harmonizing the efforts and skills of the industry stakeholders to address the restrictive operating environment, high incidence of taxes and copyright laws. However, the most gratifying initiative as a trade body vests in the environs of dispute resolution and workers’ remuneration/working conditions.

To conclude, it is my utmost desire that the Guild emerges as an important flag bearer of the Indian entertainment industry in its relentless pursuit of striving for the well being, prosperity and sanctimony of the industry as a whole and not just exclusive to its members. May the Guild emerge as a shining beacon of hope and pride for the industry and I assure the steadfast commitment of our Managing Committee towards this achievable goal.
